He is presently co-leader of the “Environmental Engineering” – group, focusing on research topics mainly related to environmental biotechnology, waste gas treatment, wastewater treatment and bioconversion processes. He is author or co-author of close to one hundred scientific papers, books and book chapters and editor of the book Bioreactors for Waste Gas Treatment published by Kluwer Academic Publishers (ISBN 9780792371908).
He is member of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Chemical Technology & Biotechnology (J. Wiley), The Open Biotechnology Journal (Bentham) and Recent Patents in Chemical Engineering (Bentham), and former member of the Editorial Board of the Springer journal Re/Views in Environmental Science & Bio/Technology. He is also one of the main organizers of the International Conference on Biotechniques for Air Pollution Control, celebrated every odd numbered year.
